Overall Purpose of the Position
To assist their manager in the management of the Bank’s advances portfolio and assist in the planning, organising, coordinating and controlling of activities in the Branch to achieve the objectives and goals set out by the Bank.
Operational Responsibilities
- To interview and evaluate financing proposals submitted by prospective borrowers, collect financial data and other supporting information to assess the feasibility of a credit application and credit worthiness of an applicant.
- To take lending decisions in respect of borrowing applications falling within delegated Personal Advances Limits and/or to make recommendations to the Branch Manager.
- To issue comprehensive and accurate sanction letters as authorised by the Bank.
- To manage, monitor, control, review and service the advances portfolio and ensure the recovery of payments due on loans and advances from customers.
- To ensure that the daily excess report is closely monitored, with timely submission of AD15 (excess report) to Head Office when necessary.
- To ensure each file has a document checklist appropriately completed for each borrowing customer ascertaining that all the personal data of the customer and all the relevant forms are up to date, completed and duly signed by the customer and the Bank officials as appropriate.
- To establish and negotiate the terms and conditions under which credit will be extended, including the costs, repayment method, schedule and collateral requirements.
- To promote the Bank’s products and services and cross sell the Bank’s complementary products and develop business relationships with customers.
- To monitor and control portfolios through the Bank’s daily/periodical advances reports, annual reviews, etc and compile statistics and present reports or submit returns to Head Office in relation to credit facilities granted, withdrawn or declined by the Bank, and approved borrowing applications utilised, or withdrawn by customers.
- To ensure that utilisation of sanctioned secured facilities that takes place after the Bank’s security position is in order.
- To liaise with the Legal Advances Unit and customers to expedite pre-deed and post deed legal formalities.
- To keep abreast with new developments in the field of advances and changing government and legal regulations, and ensure that assistants are kept posted on legal and regulatory developments.
- To supervise and coach junior colleagues and assistants in performing their duties.
- To be knowledgeable and conversant with the Bank’s Handbook, circulars, products, services, website and myAPS system.
- To authorise validations (referrals) and maker-checker functions on ICBS.
- To relieve and step in the role of Senior General Banking Officer in the absence of the latter.
- To ensure (in liaison with management) that the Branch has adequate cash float to service customers’ requests.
- To liaise with other supporting Units on operational issues as and when required.
- To take personal initiative and assist the Branch Manager in attracting new business for the Bank
General Responsibilities
- To submit any reports and/or supervise any projects and activities as may be directed from time to time.
- To ensure compliance with Bank’s policies, guidelines and underlying procedures at all times.
- To assist their manager in the preparation of the unit’s business plan and underlying budgets.
- Ambassador of APS Bank and be able to actively promote the brand.
- To undertake and perform any other duties that may be reasonably assigned.

Experience
- Have a number of years working experience in advances.
Qualification
- Possess or is in the process of obtaining, a qualification in banking, finance or related field.
