Overall Purpose of the Position

Reporting to the BI and Data Development Manager and will be working closely with Data Owners, Stewards, and Custodians.

The Data Governance Lead will be responsible for all aspects of defining and operating the data governance policies, to provide direction and guidance to ongoing initiatives in relation to Data Governance, the adoption of data governance within change management processes and practices as well as overall support to the multiple data domains.

Ultimately, the Data Governance Lead will also be responsible for implementing the data governance program vision, promoting the role of governance and enforcing policies.

 

Operational Responsibilities

  • Engage business stakeholders and lead the process to define the scope of the data domain and its owners.
  • Lead, guide, and support business stakeholders in the definition of business terms, and their relationship with underlying data points in the Bank’s Business Glossary.
  • Lead, guide, and support business stakeholders in the definition of data quality rules and prepare documentation for the implementation of the rules in the Bank’s Data Quality monitoring tools.
  • Initiate and oversee the introduction of Data Governance best practices and policies in the Change Request and Management processes, such as the approval of requested changes.
  • Initiate and oversee the implementation of a formalised and automated process for requesting data or reports, that will increase efficiencies in gathering requirements, prioritisation, routing of requests, and gathering required approvals.
  • Review and propose improvements to the Bank’s Data Governance Framework.
  • Monitor and report progress of the various Data Governance initiatives, highlighting areas for improvement to Data Owners and management.

General Responsibilties

  • Ensure compliance with Bank’s policies, guidelines and underlying procedures.
  • Build relationships and liaise with various stakeholders across the business to ensure cohesion and drive a collaborative work environment.
  • Submit any reports as may be directed from time to time.
  • Organise and co-ordinate meetings with staff members to manage Data Governance initiatives, when required
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
  • Manage multiple competing priorities through effective organization and communication.
  • Contribute to the overall business strategy from a Data Governance aspect.

 Qualification

  • Degree/diploma in IT, Data, Business Intelligence, or in a related field or equivalent experience.
