Overall Purpose of the Position

Responsible for the provision of advice, vetting of legal documentation in connection to deeds of borrowing, and representation on such deeds.

Operational Responsibilities

  • To appear for and on behalf of the Bank and to represent the same on notarial deeds of loan, overdraft and additional security to be granted by the Bank and on other ancillary notarial deeds;
  • To provide legal advice with regards to deeds of borrowing;
  • To communicate and liaise with Branch/Unit staff and with the Bank’s appointed lawyers, Notaries, Public Registry and Land Registry officials and other involved parties so as to finalize all that is necessary to perfect the Bank’s hypothecary security;
  • To provide legal advice in relation to the request for the liquidation of Accounts held in the name of deceased customers;
  • To draft and issue letters of intimation of payment as directed from time to time;
  • To train staff on legal issues and other related activities;
  • To ensure that the Bank’s policies, guidelines and procedures are strictly complied with at all times;
  • To grant general legal advice as may be requested and according to the exigencies of the Department.

General Responsibilities

  • To submit any reports and/or supervise any projects and activities as may be directed from time to time;
  • To ensure compliance with Bank’s policies, guidelines and underlying procedures at all times;
  • To assist in the preparation of the unit’s business plan and budgets;
  • To ensure a high quality/standard of work and service throughout;
  • To perform standard office procedures and administration when required;
  • To attend/give training as requested and perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

 

Qualifications, Skills & Competencies

  • Be reliable, organised, meticulous, thorough and prepared to work under pressure;
  • Be a team player and being able to build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with others inside and outside the institution;

  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting & interpersonal skills;
  • Be computer literate and conversant in MS Office applications.
  • Possess Knowledge of the Maltese Language. 

Experience

 Qualification

  • Possess a degree in Law preferably with a specialization in civil, commercial & corporate law;
  • Possesses a warrant to practice as an advocate in the Maltese Courts.
