Overall Purpose of the Position 

The Systems Engineer’s role is to design and implement an enterprise infrastructure, which is scalable and resilient to meet current and future business demands. The systems Engineer shall be responsible in maintaining the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the highly complex systems environment, which supports the Bank’s core business applications, critical system interfacing solutions and client facing platforms. The Systems Engineer shall be operating within a dynamic commercial environment and is expected to take sensible technical decisions and make recommendations while taking the lead to translate these into project and initiatives with the aim to enhance and continuously improve the Bank’s IT infrastructure. This individual will be mentoring and provide guidance to teams within the Systems and infrastructure unit.

 

Operational Responsibilities

  • To build and maintain a resilient enterprise infrastructure in support of the Bank’s business initiatives and identified opportunities for improvement.
  • Adopt security and privacy by design principles and define guidelines to ensure interoperability through open standards and avoidance of potential vendor lock-in.
  • Work closely with other IT and business units during the definition of new systems architecture to align such initiatives in accordance with the established guidelines, security policies and recommended industry standards.
  • Ensure that technical documentation and Blue Prints are up to date in order to reflect changes within the Bank’s enterprise architecture.
  • Take the lead in design, planning, coordination and implementation of Data Centre activities, which includes but not limited to new system hosting, core system upgrades, storage, backups and patch management.
  • Take an active role in the planning of DR simulations and the failover testing of the selected core systems.
  • Ensure that the server estate and storage infrastructure is operating at optimal performance in adherence within the established SLAs and uptime.
  • Coordinate system changes and maintenance works in accordance of the established change management procedures while ensuring minimal business disruption.
  • Keep abreast with technology developments and the security threat landscape.
  • Prepare technical specifications and define service requests in support of strategic initiatives.
  • Takes an active role in the adjudication process to award suppliers with contracts of work, through established procurement procedures, and follow through the signoff and subsequent payment settlements for the provided services and/or goods.
  • Manage suppliers and 3rd party contractors and ensure that these are contributing in delivering business value.
  • Ensure that the delivered services are up to standard and expected quality.
  • Implement monitoring platforms to capture systems wide events, performance statistics and logs that will feed into and enabling the NOC function.
  • Direct the team to map all nodes on the monitoring platform and establish parametrisation standards to capture data and provide reports.
  • Takes a leading role in analysing and interpreting logs during investigations related to performance, security and privacy issues
  • Automate operational tasks in order to increase the unit’s efficiencies and direct resources towards higher value tasks.
  • Lead the IT systems administration team through mentoring and by providing guidance while serving as a third line of support for all operations within the team.
  • Responsible for the team’s development and identification of training needs.
  • Establish standard operating procedures, delegating tasks, contribute in setting KPIs and appraising the team members in accordance with the performance appraisal guidelines and procedures.

 

General Responsibilities

  • To submit any reports and/or lead any projects and activities as may be directed by the Manager (IT Systems and Infrastructure) from time to time;
  • To ensure compliance with Bank’s policies, guidelines and underlying procedures at all times;
  • To assist his/her superior in the preparation of the unit’s business plan and underlying budgets. This includes the preparation of action plans and reports as may be instructed by the superior from time to time;
  • To take an active role on committees and working groups and contribute accordingly;
  • To participate in meetings when required and as directed by the Manager (IT Systems and Infrastructure) and take minutes accordingly;
  • To ensure a high quality standard of work and service throughout;
  • Willing to work on-call;
  • To attend training as requested by the Bank;
  • To perform any other duties that may be assigned to him/her from time to time

 

Qualifications, Skills & Competencies  

Mandatory 

Skill

  • Be proficient in server technologies such windows and Linux operating systems, Active Directory and Ancillary services, server virtualisation such as Hyper-V and VMWare clustering, cloud computing such as Office 365, Exchange, SCCM, WSUS SCOM and other technologies.
  • Be proficient in enterprise grade storage subsystems and backup solutions.
  • Be proficient in scripting and automation tools or assist part of the implementation or monitoring process such as Microsoft’s SCCM, SCOM and monitoring platforms.
  • Be able to deal with and solve problems quickly and accurately.
  • Possess good communication and report writing skills.
  • Be a team player, reliable, and can work on his/her own initiative.

Experience

  • Have 4+ years’ working experience in a similar role within an IT environment supporting enterprise grade servers and storage subsystems.
  • Experience in managing data centre operations
  • Experience in designing and implementing Enterprise solutions including Server HW, storage subsystems and related management technologies
  • Experience in managing technology projects

Qualification

  • Possess a Degree/Masters in Computer Science or in a related field.

Experience

  • Hands-on experience on SWIFT messaging System.
  • Advanced Infrastructure Security Insight

Qualification

  • Industry Certification:
  • MSCE Cloud Platform and Infrastructure,
  • HPE ATP – Storage Solutions V2
  • Knowledge of ITIL v3 skills will be considered as an asset
